Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage)


Part D of Medicare was established in 2003, the same year that Medicare Advantage Plans were developed. Prior to 2003, Prescription drug coverage was not required, but there WERE some Medicare Supplement plans that did include Prescription Drug Coverage. Since 2003, if you decide that Original Medicare (Parts A and B), and a Medicare Supplement are the right coverage for you, then YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN AS WELL (Part D)

Currently there are 44 different prescription drug plans available. These plans are offered by private insurance companies. Many of the companies you may have heard of :

Humana
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
United Healthcare
Cigna
Aetna
Express Scripts

And… Some you may not have ever heard of :

Magellan Rd
Silver Script Rd
First Health Part D

These are just some of the Many companies that offer plans. The point is this – DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE COMPANY NAME!

Choosing a prescription drug plan is simply choosing the Right Drug Plan for YOUR MEDICATIONS. Nothing Else.
